Our Environmental Policy

At Higher Shorston Lakes & Lodges we are committed to providing a good quality service. As part of this commitment we are supporting members of The Green Tourism Business Scheme which promotes accreditation and encourages us to minimise the environmental impact of our activities. This is our small contribution to the world ahead.

Your accommodation designed for sustainable tourism, has been thoughtfully constructed, to blend with the surrounding countryside with living 'Green Roof', double glazing, ecotherm insulated walls and private water supply.

Most of the appliances are 'A' rated low energy, heating is thermostatically controlled and there is low energy lighting in most areas.

A designated area has been provided for visitors to help recycle paper, bottles and cans.

We reduce, re-use and recycle where possible. We reduce the use of energy, water and other resources where possible.

We promote local food and drink with Farm Shops close by and places to eat which use local produce. Fish is caught locally at Clovelly and sold in the weekly pannier market at Holsworthy. We have an information building which promotes all local businesses. Further information can be found in Holsworthy at the local visitor centre.

We have coarse fishing on site, with walking, cycling and riding close by.

We are members of:

- The National Trust, protecting our heritage.
- The Devon Wildlife Trust protecting wildlife, flora and fauna.
- The Ruby Country Initiative, promoting tourism and all things good about the area.
- The Federation of Small Business, an organisation with valuable knowledge and help for small organisations.

We encourage our guests to make a small contribution to a worldwide problem.

Our Green Folder has more information.
